The problem is that we don’t usually think about our physical state unless it’s really, really important. Like walking, for example. Most of us could walk just fine without thinking about it. The only reason we’re all talking about walking is because of the recent news about the new “Crazy Walking” shoes.
The fact that we only have one thought, and that this thought is the only one we have to experience, is the reason we can experience emotions. For example, we might think, “I am thirsty.” and then we experience that feeling, “I am thirsty.” But to really experience that emotion, we need to think, “I am thirsty.” But if we don’t think, we dont really experience it.
I think the most important thing to remember is that it is not about thinking, it is not about feeling. To experience emotions, you have to think about them and have the ability to feel them.

So the brain is more like a virtual reality where you are experiencing an emotion with a screen, not actually experiencing the emotion.
To that end, a very popular theory amongst psychologists is the “ego theory”. This is the idea that our brains come pre-programmed with a certain type of behavior, and that this type of behavior is the reason our brains are capable of experiencing emotion.
