I recently visited Cana, Canada and saw the oilsands of Alberta and its surrounding areas. I had to stop and take in the view. The land is vast and there are so many different types of oilsands out there. My interest was piqued because I have never seen an oil sands plant before. Being in the oil industry for years, I have seen the oilsands from a bird’s eye view, but this was the first time I was actually standing in them.
Oil sands is a highly efficient and environmentally friendly way to capture oil. Many oil sands producers use the oil they collect to make the deposits. As a result, the oil is transported to the plant. If you can get enough oil there, the deposits will be big enough for a car to pull out. I’ve seen oil sands in some very small tar sands deposits, but they don’t exist in tar sands deposits.
The oil sands are very different from the conventional oil sands because they are “fractionated” or separated into different sizes for different uses. Oil in conventional oil sands is very high in saturates, but in the oil sands the oil is very high in light oils like gasoline. Oil sands have a high light oil saturation of up to 100 percent, so they are more economical to transport and process than conventional oil sands.
The best way to know for sure what will be used for the next time you walk into a store, is by looking at the colors, textures, and images attached to the front of your house. If you like the way green and yellow color is used, then you will be able to see those colors in the store and also see those images on the walls.
